Donny Schatz scored his 18th win of the season and the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series title in Saturday's VAULT World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway.
In late model action, Josh Richards took home the win and Darrell Lanigan was crowned champion.

Schatz started from the point position in the 24-car field and was never challenged for the lead as he claimed his third win at the four-tenths-mile clay oval and took home the $10,000 top prize. The Sprint Car Championship is Schatz's third-consecutive title and the second World of Outlaws title for Tony Stewart Racing.

"This is great. This is definitely how we wanted to end the year," said Schatz. "We came in here the other night a little bit nervous. Obviously we weren't really focused on winning the championship; we just wanted to win here this weekend.

"We couldn't get the motors going and my guys did so much changing to this thing. We learned so much in the last two days, that the last two nights we have just been able to fine tune this race car. It's one awesome piece to drive."

In addition to claiming the win and championship, Tony Stewart Racing also scored a one-two finish as Kraig Kinser moved up from his fourth starting spot to finish second.

Jason Meyers got past Jason Sides midway through the race and finished third. Daryn Pittman and Sides rounded out the top five.

The red flag waved on lap 19 as Rob Chaney flipped end-over-end in the middle of turns three and four and was then hit by Kerry Madsen. While his car was heavily damaged, Chaney walked away.

The race was slowed by an additional three cautions, including one on lap one when Cody Darrah spun in turn four and was hit by Mark Smith.

The eight-lap sprint car heat races were won by Schatz, Chaney, Jac Haudenschild and Kinser.

Niki Young won the C main while Louie Carufel flipped. The No. 47X car landed right side up and Carufel was able to walk away from his mangled car.

Kerry Madsen took the checkered flag in the B main and Schatz led wire-to-wire to win the Crane Cams Dash to earn the pole position in the feature.

Lanigan finished seventh in Saturday's World of Outlaws Late Model Series feature as he claimed his first series championship.

Richards started the late model race from eighth position and steadily moved his way up through the field. He was in fourth by lap 14 and passed Dale McDowell for second on lap 32. Three laps later he passed Earl Pearson Jr.
for the lead off turn four.

"I don't even know what to say," said Richards as he exited his car and claimed the winner's trophy. "This is definitely a top moment in my career.

"I was nervous coming in. We had to defend second place in the points and to come out here and win is just amazing."

The win was Richards' sixth of the season and first at The Dirt Track. He finished second in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series points.

Pearson Jr. looked to the high side with two laps to go in a challenge for the lead, but was unable to pass Richards and settled for second. McDowell led more than 30 laps before he was passed by Pearson Jr., and ended up third. Donnie Moran and Steve Francis rounded out the top five.

The late model feature was slowed by six caution periods for a series of minor incidents.

McDowell, Owens, Pearson Jr., Chris Madden, Davey Johnson and Tim McCreadie won the 10-lap heat races for the late models.

Francis, Michael England and Scott Bloomquist topped the 12-lap late model B mains.
